WabiSabi Art Tent
WabiSabi excels at finding beauty in imperfection, and its Kid’s Art Tent teaches new generations how to do the same. The traveling tent offers up numerous arts and crafts projects for children at festivals throughout the region, turning community discards into collaborative art.
Art Tent offerings are diverse, including sock puppet creation, face-painting, tie-dyeing, constructing paper plate masks, dance lessons, magic shows and more. All materials are community cast-offs, revived through the lens of our children’s creativity.
“The WabiSabi lineup of fun, unique and engaging activities led to our largest youth and family turnout ever in 2007,” raved Melanie Steele, director of The Helper Arts and Music Festival. “Additionally, the group’s positive message of art within the parameters of recycling and community self-sustainability was an excellent way to educate our youth on the significance of earth-conscious fun and creativity. Never before in our 13 years of holding the festival have I seen such a positive buzz from the Children’s Art Yard!”
She continued, “Also, as an administrator, WabiSabi’s excellent organization and competent staff freed us up to focus on other elements of the festival. The knowledge that our youth element was expertly handled was invaluable.”

In addition to the Moab Arts Festival, the tent has been a popular fixture at the Helper Arts and Music Festival, the Confluence Literary Festival and Moab’s July Fourth Chamber Celebration. WabiSabi is looking to bring the kid’s tent to other events as well.
