WabiSabi Celebrates 2005 with
Awards Ceremony for Nonprofit Partners
Due to an increase in donations and income, WabiSabi’s Board of Directors has voted to distribute monetary awards twice a year. The first round of 2005 awards will be $5,000 given to WabiSabi’s nonprofit partners on Wednesday, September 7th. The Awards Ceremony will take place at the MARC at 7:30 PM. The event is open to WabiSabi’s partners, their supporters and the community.
Checks will be awarded to the Amigos Club, C.C. Recycling Center, Canyonlands Film Society, Hospice, Moab Valley Humane Society, Infant through Youth, KZMU Community Radio, Living Rivers, Moab Poets & Writers, Native American Club, Seekhaven, SPLORE, and the Youth Garden Project. The amount of the award is based on the number of votes each partner received at the two WabiSabi thrift stores: the Warehouse thrift store, 145 West 200 South, and the Thriftique at 350 South, 400 East.
The Awards Ceremony will be an opportunity for nonprofit organizations to get together, share ideas, learn how to become a WabiSabi partner, and discover how existing partners can increase their votes, and the size of their check.
2005 has been a banner year for WabiSabi. In addition to being awarded the "2005 Nonprofit Volunteer Program of the Year" by the Utah Commission on Volunteers, WabiSabi has generated more income in the first half of 2005 then in any previous year. The nonprofit organization will soon be opening WabSabi Three – a recycled building supplies store offering salvaged and high-quality used building supplies, doors, windows, light fixtures, sinks, cabinets and more.
