December 25, 2007 - Free Christmas Dinner

WabiSabi, a nonprofit thrift store, hosted a free Community Christmas Dinner on Tuesday, December 25th at The Moab Arts and Recreation Center.

This is WabiSabi’s second annual Community Christmas Dinner. Last year’s event drew over 200 people and WabiSabi anticipates a large turnout this year. The traditional dinner will include turkey, stuffing, potatoes, and pies. In addition, the Moab Community Dance Band will provide live entertainment

The Community Christmas Dinner is part of WabiSabi’s Hands Up program. In addition to the Christmas event, The Hands Up program includes a Thanksgiving dinner as well as six Sunday brunches that will begin January 6th. The brunches will be held at the Youth Garden Project, next to the high school.

"It is our belief that by inspiring individuals to come together we can continue to create a healthy community in Moab that will outlive us all, a place we can truly call home," said Amanda Moore-Trenholme, board member of WabiSabi.

The WabiSabi Hands Up program is made possible through generous donations made by individuals and businesses. The Hands Up program also received a grant from The United Way of Southeastern Utah some of the cost of food. Over 100 volunteers help at The Hands Up meals. Volunteers prepare and serve the food, clean, decorate, wash dishes, launder the table clothes and many of the other tasks that need to be done.

A large part of this year’s Community Christmas Dinner is being donated and prepared by Red Cliff’s Lodge. "We have had incredible support from the community for this program," said Holly Dinsmore, one of the program’s co-ordinators. "When I spoke with Charlie Every from The Red Cliff’s Lodge and he told me what they could do to help I was ecstatic."

Everyone is invited to come and share the holiday spirit and a great meal with their neighbors at WabiSabi’s Community Christmas Dinner.
